Sideways. Who Are We?

We are an underground house and techno label based in the South East corner of the UK currently in our fourth year. We evolved from a group of like minded DJs, promoters and producers who together have supplied the underground entertainment in our area for the last twenty years.
A platform for new emerging talent, we started locally but this soon expanded with remixes and signings from further afield. We are serious about music. We do what we do because we love it and we believe in older values. Every release is mastered properly whether it’s digital or vinyl by Chris Alexander @ Full Range in Brighton.

We aren’t big or clever, we jump up and down at parties just like you.
There are radio shows, mixes and tracks to download. Check out the site.
If you’re a producer or dj yourself or just enjoy dancing, drop us a line….

Guy Hornsby – Capa’s Journey Ep – Out Now

Producer, DJ, journalist, promoter and all round good egg Guy Hornsby, follows his recent remix for Keydin with his own debut EP for Sideways and we are all very excited to have him onboard.

EP title track Capa’s Journey has a deep techy groove sitting over an array of swirling atmospherics, trippy delays and mysterious vocal snippets. Guy’s other original track, Deeper Shade, is a moody piece of tech house with precise repetitive percussion and bending synths set against a warm bass groove.

First up on remix duty, Episodes reworks Capa’s Journey, lowering the tempo he provides a lighter take on the original with it’s summery pads and organs. Elliot Wright makes a welcome return to the label to finish off the release with a more dancefloor orientated take on Deeper Shade which bounces along with a satisfying chunky bass/kick groove.

Available now at Whatpeopleplay, Beatport and all other good digital outlets.

Layo (Layo & Bushwacka!)

Chris Finke (Atomic Jam/Flux Recordings)
Really nice and vibey!! This has a lot of emotion in it while keeping the groove.

Keydin – Loose Hands – Out Now

Following on from his remix of Citizen Black’s ‘Rinse Repeat’ and remixes for  Cubism and Stripped Digital, Keydin’s third release for Sideways finds him in deep groovy tech mode. A warm pad sits comfortably in the background throughout, whilst the the stripped down groove is layered with subtle jazzy rhythms. Combine these with a moody walking bassline and plenty of squeaks & bleeps to wander around the brain, and you have a track that truly showcases Keydin’s intelligent approach to deep tech house.

Promoter and DJ for London night Dropout, Guy Hornsby, makes his first appearance on Sideways, ahead of his forthcoming EP for us later in the year. His remix takes Loose Hands into even deeper territory, with a dark, trippy and almost sinister take on the original. A moody bass wallows underneath, whilst clever piano licks provide an altogether different melodic stance, plunging the track further into darkness. Serious music that isn’t just necessarily aimed at the dancefloor, concentrated more on mood and atmosphere.

Available now at Whatpeopleplay, Beatport and all other good digital outlets.

Episodes – First Light – Out Now

Episodes First Light

Episodes returns to Sideways for his first solo appearance after collaborations with Keydin and before that, The Specsialist.

With First Light Episodes effortlessly rolls out a sophisticated slice of house music. Following a classic A-B-A structure pattern, First Light builds with washing pads and a bouncy bassline, peaks in the middle with uplifting keys and vocal samples, then drops back to the pads and bass to amazing effect.

Sideways own Keydin continues his journey into the deep with his remix, picking up the tempo ever so slightly, but retaining the lush summery feel to the track. The vocal loop is used to hypnotic effect throughout, and as it develops, clever re-arrangement of the melody over a plethora of bass give the track a liquid tech feel.

Available now at Whatpeopleplay and any other digital outlet you care to mention!

Deepchild
Original is smooth and sweet! Lovely.

Guy Hornsby
Super warm business from Episodes. First Light is deep, groovy and atmospheric, and the Keydin remix is more four-to-the-floor, with a nicely looped vocal. Will review.

Pierre Chevallier

Thom Norton Decisions EP – Out Now

After an extended and very wintery break we are back with our first release of 2011 and it’s a bit of a corker!  It doesn’t stop there either.  Over the next few months we have releases lined up from main stay Sideways artists, Episodes and Keydin as well as welcoming Guy Hornsby, Shades of Gray and Mick Verma to our camp.  Stay tuned for some good music!

Back to the point in hand, Thom’s excellent EP is available exclusively at WhatPeoplePlay for the next week and then it’s out on general release from the 11th of March.

Title track ‘Decisions’ bounces along with a deep techno feel and features a haunting vocal delivered by Thom’s older brother Si, lead singer for up and coming UK band ’Magnets’ .  Into Your Eyes, a true B side (in the best way), comes straight in with a hypnotic bassline that drives the track along while the swirling higher layers present a more relaxed soundscape.

Elliot Wright
love both of these tracks.

Dj Schwa / Shades of Gray
Into your eyes is really cool!

Fraser Owen
Another great EP. Into your eyes is the one for me. Full support
Matt (Trendy Mullet)

Guy Hornsby
Another solid EP from Sideways, and Thom Norton’s star rising. Striking vocal on Decisions, and Into Your Eyes is proper main-room tackle.

Wez Saunders
Very nice tracks, well produced and certainly will get the dancefloor moving!
